Dawn's married to a teacher who knows what it's like to work in a classroom. Their kids attended public schools, and she is passionate about making state budgets live up to our paramount duty to provide a good education for children.

A Hard Worker. An Effective Leader Dawn is not only passionate about supporting our schools and colleges, she is effective. That's why she was recently named the 2010 Pierce County Legislator of the Year by the Pierce County Association of Career and Technical Education Administrators.

Smaller class sizes in public schools

Honoring the public Initiative that demanded better pay for teachers

Early learning and all-day kindergarten, where early investments pay huge dividends in later years and reduce the need for costly remedial education.

Expanded college opportunities at Pierce College at Puyallup. Dawn has been a stalwart support of the college and successfully led the efforts to secure funding for the college's beautiful new Arts and Allied Health building.

Building college and career-training opportunities at UW Tacoma, where the the college's outstanding nursing program presented her with the 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award
